Online Casinos can be lots of fun. They are a great way to wind down after a long hard day and with proper budgeting they are a cheap way to get quality entertainment. Many parents out there use online gambling to de-stress but the last thing you need is for your kids to get on to your account. Not only is it illegal for minors to gamble online but it can devastate your bank roll, so you should always take the proper precautions to keep them out.
A child's brain is not fully developed. They are still learning to make decisions and think for themselves. They have a limited understanding on the long term effects of their actions and this makes them vulnerable to gambling addiction. There is a reason that gambling laws keep minors from buying scratch cards or hitting up casinos, they are just not ready. While some stragey games like poker may be okay under your supervision it is never a good idea to let a kid have free rain on gambling websites.
One of the easiest ways to keep them out is to set up a separate user account on your computer. All computers these days provide you with an option to set up separate user accounts on your computer and allow you to limit how much access your kids have. You can for example put parental controls on your computer to keep kids from visiting inappropriate sites and keep them from installing potentially harmful programs on your computer. In this case, the main idea is to install your software on your account and block their account from having access to it or better yet keep them from seeing that you have it on the computer at all.
If for whatever reason you do not want to have separate accounts on your computer you can also make it a point to always log out after your done playing being sure that the password is not saved. If you take this route be sure to choose a password that your kids will not be able to guess and be careful that they do not see you logging in.
Even if you do have your own user account on the computer it's probably a good idea to get in the habit of logging out either way since there will come a time that you forget to shut your computer down.
Many parents may feel like their being noisy if they keep an eye on what their kid is doing on the computer but this is one of the most effective ways of keeping your kids out of trouble. Your children aren't as likely to access your games, talk to strangers, look up derogatory content, or post inappropriate content on their social networking sites if they know that you are watching what they are doing. Not only will keeping an eye on them keep them from gambling but it could also keep them from making bad decisions that could put them in danger or affect their reputation for the rest of their lives.
Do NOT feel guilty about looking to see what they are up to.
You can't be there all the time however, it's just not possible. Kids can get online at school, at the library, on their phones, or at their friends house. That's why it's important to sit down and talk to your kids about what sites are and are not appropriate. Let them know that gambling is not allowed until they are older and explain to them your concerns. Even if they do not agree with your decision they are far more likely to do what you say if you communicate with them and let them know that you are always there if they have questions. The teenage years can be especially troublesome for parents and that is the time when healthy communication is most valuable. If you lay the groundwork when they are young, you will be sure to save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.
If you suspect that your kid has gotten on to your account do not come straight out and make accusations. Bide your time and collect evidence so when you do confront them you can show them that there is no way of denying what they've done. Every parent has their own way of disciplining so you should know how to best handle the situation just make sure that the punishment does not exceed to crime or encourage them to do it again.
Online Gambling is a great way to spend your time but do not let it get in the way of your children. Keep them away from the software so you can continue to enjoy all of your favorite games in the years to come. Taking responsibility and putting in a little effort can make all the difference and once you know your account and your children are safe you'll be able to enjoy your online casino games all the more. Stay safe and play smart!
