The dicegame Craps has been entertaining players for hundreds of years. It is believed to be a descendent of the game Hazard, which was created by Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans around 1813. As the game gained popularity, it evolved into the game of Craps played today, which is a simplified version of Hazard. The game quickly became one of the more popular games found in casinos.

As Craps gained popularity, it branched out into two main forms: Street and Casino Craps. With Street Craps, it’s more of an informal game. The betting in simpler; a player must cover the bet in order for the game to go on. In Casino Craps, betting is more complicated and the house covers the bets, making it a player vs. banker game. When playing at a Craps table in a casino, it becomes a friendly and social game. Unlike other games, with Craps players play along with one another because when one person wins, everyone making that bet wins as well.

In the mid-1990’s, some casinos decided to try a simplified version of Craps in their casinos. It featured a smaller table with one dealer, rather than a large table with many people. The game, similar to Blackjack, lacked many of the exciting wagers a normal Craps table would attract.
