PokerStars and Full Tilt have been competing for years and both have secured themselves as the top online poker sites. PokerStars has had an edge over Full Tilt for a while when it comes to the amount of people who play at their sites, but will it be the same for their television shows?
With the extremely weak program Face the Ace, which has suffered some serious criticism it seems that PokerStars may just outdo Full Tilt once again. The new poker show is set to premiere on Fox after NFL football on Sunday, October 11th. The show will feature PokerStars freeroll winners battling it out on the felt with celebrities and poker pros for a one million dollar prize.
Contenders will qualify to play on the show after winning a freeroll tournament on PokerStars.net and then submitting a minute long clip about themselves and why they should be on the show. PokerStars officials will then judge the tapes and pick a player who will compete in the show's heads-up games.
The show promises a fresh and entertaining format full of celebrities and poker pros. First, the freeroll winner will sit down with celebrities like Playboy Playmate of the Year, Jayde Nicole, Super Bowl champion Jerome Bettis, or MMA champion Tito Ortiz.
After surviving through the heads-up game with a celebrity, contestants will be faced with an even bigger challenge when they move on to the next round. A member of Team PokerStars will be the contestant's next opponent on the felt. Poker players include Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein and Vanessa Rousso. If the luck contestant beats this heads-up game, they can choose to walk away with $25,000 or put it on the line by competing against one of the world's best poker players, Daniel Negreanu.
After getting that far, if one of the players is skilled enough to take on and win the round with Daniel, they will get $100,000 which is theirs to keep no matter what. They will move on to compete with other $100,000 winners in a sit-n-go where they will battle it out for another chance to take down Daniel. If they beat Daniel for a second time in a heads-up game, they will become a millionaire.
As if this weren't enough to have every poker fanatic tuned in on October 11, there is even more to love about this show. Daniel will be on the contestant's side for the first two rounds helping them with advice and tips to beat the celebrity and poker pros. Negreanu will be working hard to help them get through each round because every time a contestant wins a match, $10,000 will go to a charity chosen by Daniel himself. Even if the contestant doesn't win a round, some money will be donated to a charity making this an all around great contest no matter what happens.
With Fox TV announcer hosting the show, the five episodes will run through the 18th and will pick back up November 22nd and December 13th and then again with the Million Dollar Heads-up Match airing December 27th.
